Thank you for reading the first issue of OUT/CAST!
Our inaugural issue features work from eleven different artists, broad in range and identity as we establish our voice as a publication for the very first time. The pieces in Issue 1 highlight truths about the American Midwest that are often ignored, they highlight erotic, mundane, they are centered in particular moments and they stretch off into different corners of time and place.
We seek to challenge popular conceptions of what it means to be a writer and an artist and also seek to show visions of queer experience not rooted in big coastal cities. We are thrilled and honored to publish each piece in this issue and proud to show the range and scope of contemporary Midwestern (and not-quite-Midwestern) art. And we look forward to finding and presenting new work that continues to redefine what it means to be queer and Midwestern, new visions of an OUT/CAST identity.
With love (and pride), your editors,
Christine M. Hopkins
